After finding the priest robe I was unable to open inventory to take it on, nor could I open the main menu to doublecheck controls. I tried both crouched and standing, but neither worked until after I exited the area. If it's meant to be that way, it would be nice with some text saying something like "unable to do this action" so it feels intentional and less buggy.
